I had the wonderful opportunity to spend my summer with VOLTAGE as the digital marketing intern. Throughout the time I spent here, I found my favorite projects to work on, and my knowledge and skill set skyrocketed.

Why I Chose VOLTAGE

I had just recently finished a marketing course where I got to create a product and different marketing strategies. Part of this strategy included search engine optimization, which sparked my interest.

While researching top marketing firms in my hometown, I found VOLTAGE. It immediately caught my attention as an innovative and forward-thinking firm. I was extremely excited to learn more about SEO and strategies.

I am also from the KC area, so I wanted to spend time working in and exploring the city. I got to spend the majority of each week in the River Market and found my new favorite restaurants and coffee shops.

Growth and Learning

During my time here at VOLTAGE, I got to work with over 15 clients completing various projects. Some of these projects included:

  • Creating ad campaigns including researching, writing copy, and staging in the Google Ads platform
  • Keyword research to guide website content creation and ad copy creation
  • Writing SEO-focused blog articles and creating posts in WordPress
  • Analyzing content and competitor websites and providing recommendations to improve client pages
  • Auditing websites with ScreamingFrog
  • Optimizing websites for SEO and implementing fixes on client websites

This was my first internship, so I was nervous to be using real data from real companies. I learned how to trust myself in the work I was completing. I was embraced as part of the team and treated as a true contributor. I was given guidance, but independence to explore how I wanted to create projects. I was able to work very closely with my department, which allowed me to build relationships and feel comfortable asking for help. As time went on, my confidence continued to grow.

My favorite project was creating multiple Google Ads campaigns for various clients. Ad campaigns are split up into different ad groups or asset groups, and require 15 different headlines for each group. This sparked my interest because I had no idea that Google Ads have multiple headlines for each ad, including keywords, calls to action, reasons to buy, and different length descriptions.

Reflecting on My Internship Experience

Reflecting on my internship experience, I realize how it has shaped my professional identity and personal values. I have gained a clearer understanding of my goals and interests, and I am now more equipped to pursue a path in marketing. The mentorship and feedback I received helped to guide my growth, and I am grateful for the supportive environment that encouraged continuous learning and development.

Working on diverse projects allowed me to attain and refine several key skills. I gained hands-on experience with many new projects and tools, and gave me a deeper understanding of industry trends and challenges. This broadened my capabilities and increased my confidence in applying these skills in real-world scenarios. The positive feedback I received reinforced my belief in my abilities and encouraged me to take on new challenges with confidence.

Overall, this internship has been a transformative experience, equipping me with valuable skills, insights, and confidence that will undoubtedly influence my future adventures. The lessons learned and relationships built during this time have laid a solid foundation for my career and personal growth.

Advice for Future Interns
