I have had the opportunity to write the original guide for getting Google Ads Certification for Search Engine Journal many years ago. I recently went back to revise it and create the fourth version or iteration of it due to changes in Google’s process and shift to a new learning management system (LMS).

I maintain that getting Google Ads Certified is important for multiple reasons.

From an agency perspective, there are standards that have to be met to become or remain a Google Partner agency. In addition to following Google guidelines and growth metrics, there are minimum requirements to have a certain number of certified analysts attached to the agency account.

From a learning perspective though, in my annual professional advisory committee meetings with a local university, I continue to emphasize Google Ads certification as an important item to see on entry level resumes. I’m not looking for people to prove they can be good test takers or necessarily saying that being Google Ads certified means that you’re a great PPC manager. However it does show a level of initiative and a baseline level of exposure to the fundamentals of Google advertising.

If you’re interested in learning more or getting certified, I encourage you to check it out!
